Australian Open 2022 - Greaves Magnificent in Moama

Updated: Aug 10, 2022

Darts headed down-under for the platinum-ranked Australian Open, where Beau Greaves continued her blistering form which saw her crowned Women's World Champion earlier this year to take the Australian Open title.

The win was Greaves's eight ranking title of 2022, increasing her lead as the current WDF World number one.

The tournament, which saw eight invitational players and four qualifiers take to the stage in Moama in an initial round robin stage also featured reigning champion Lisa Ashton, two-time World Champion Mikuru Suzuki and the 2022 Lakeside runner-up Kirsty Hutchinson.

Greaves kicked off her campaign by beating both Amanda Loch and Desi Mercer 4-0 to head her group and progress to the semi-final stages to face New Zealand's Nicole Regnaud. Regnaud herself came through a tough group where the rising star toppled Lisa Ashton 4-2, hitting an 87 average in the process and Australian qualifier Abbey Morrison.

The second semi-final would feature another New Zealander in Wendy Harper, who beat both Kirsty Hutchinson and Kym Mitchell in her group, where she was joined by Mikuru Suzuki, who overcame Australian number one Tori Kewish and fellow Japanese player Yukie Sakaguchi to progress.

Greaves registered an 84.78 average in her 6-3 victory over Regnaud to reach the final with Suzuki proving too strong for Harper and claiming a place in the final with a 6-2 win.

A nip and tuck final saw the pair tied at 4-4, before Greaves reeled off legs of 15,18,14 and 15 to take the title 8-5.
